For construction works, we need a plain surface. So far in every construction either you need a plain plot or you need soil or sand for filling plot to make the surface plain. It is impossible to work in steep land or construct something in steep or slope land.

So in this article, we will discuss the calculation process to find out the volume of soil/sand and the number of trolley or tucks required for filling the plot.

*Usually, in civil engineering work, we work on feet. so, let us assume the required dimensions are in the feet (ft).*

**Calculation Process of soil filling/sand filling for filling plot :**

Let,

Length of the plot **(L)** = 50 feet.

Width / breadth of the plot **(B)** = 40 feet.

**Area of the plot** **(A)** = Length x Width = 50 x 40 = 2000 sft.

Let us suppose, we need to fill the plot by 3’6” = 3.5 feet. (i.e 12” = 1 feet)

∴ Depth of the plot to be filled = 3.5 feet.

Now,

The **Volume of plot to be filled (V)** = 2000 x 3.5 = 7000 cubic feet (cft).

In filling, we use the standard for compaction process.

For the compaction process of filling, we always use 30% more filling material.

i.e 1.3 for the fully compacted state.

So, now for a fully compacted filling, the total required amount of soil/sand for filling plot = 7000*1.3 = 9100 cubic feet.

∴ The total volume of soil or sand required for filling the given plot is 9100 cubic feet.

**Calculation for the required number of trolley/ trucks for filling. **

Suppose, the capacity of a trolley = 100 cubic feet

∴ Total number of the required trolley for filling the given plot = 9100/100 = 91 no. of a trolley.

Suppose, capacity of a truck = 450 cubic feet

∴ No. of trucks required = 9100/450 = 20.22 = 23 no. of trucks.

**Note:** The capacity of trolley and truck is var from place to place and company brand. According to the requirements of the owner of truck/trolley, they bought different so we did not mention standard size. But usually, the stander size based on the calculation of cubic meter.
